The Ringling Sisters

What a clown show. All four Democrat representatives held a press conference where they made themselves out as helpless, fragile victims. It was all about identity and zero about substance. If they wish to stop division in America they sure have an odd way of showing it.

Isn’t it amazing that in a country supposedly so divided, it still afforded the opportunity for these four minorities to be democratically elected? Surely if it is the racist cesspit they make it out to be there is no chance in hell they’d be where they are today? They’d be stuck under the jackboot of the white supremacists.

Of course anything Trump says is automatically branded racist, bigoted, homophobic, xenophobic or any other form of outrage. Poor old Nancy Pelosi got a taste of being labeled racist last week from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez”s (AOC) chief of staff. Pelosi was having none of it. One of the few times CM has agreed with her. The left is now eating its own.

To take President Trump at his word on the White House lawn – ” if you don’t like our country, leave!” He followed it up with “you’re always welcome back.” Why didn’t the press speak to the whole context? Is it racist to say to people who seem to hate America to leave and live somewhere they’ll be happier?

CM agrees with the sentiment. If people want to firebomb ICE facilities in one border area and hoist the Mexican flag at another on US soil in place of Old Glory, why not leave? If they hate their country that much to do such things, why not move to where they think it is ideal? Perhaps the 100,000s of thousands of people being processed for being illegal immigrants speaks volumes of where people prefer to live. These people just have to open their eyes instead of howl at the moon. They have a democratic choice to turf this supposed dictator next year. If they don’t win, accept not enough think like them.

As former ICE Director Thomas Homan said to AOC, if people want to be processed as asylum seekers they should go to a proper border and go through the legal steps. They’re simply not doing that, most likely because they don’t have reasonable refugee claims as their countries are democracies not at war. They are seeking more favorable economic conditions. Aspirational asylum seekers.

If AOC wants to trash Homan and get proven completely wrong should we not question her incompetence as a lawmaker?

Do we take the words of Rep Rashida Tlaib, “we’re gonna impeach the Motherf*cker” In her victory speech as the type of conduct that invites unity with the people?

Does Rep Ilhan Omar think tweeting that Trump is a “white nationalist” will stop division, heal wounds and cause his base come around? Coming from one who had to walk back her anti-Israel stance she’s hardly speaking from high ground.

How about Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley who said, “We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need black faces that don’t want to be a black voice. We don’t need Muslims that don’t want to be a Muslim voice. We don’t need queers that don’t want to be a queer voice.”

So if one strays from Pressley’s predetermined definition of identity – because they wish to be thought of as individuals – are they betraying their roots? How does one create unity with that type of ridiculous thinking? How dare one aspire to not letting stereotypes prevent them succeed.

Of course leftist heads will explode after reading this. While Trunp ‘s tweets are rarely tactful or polite, if these Democrats wish to unite a country, they need a new playbook. Americans are growing sick and tired of the constant leftist drone.

All four are lawmakers. If they can’t prosecute a sounder argument than moping at a press conference what hope have they got? Perhaps taking his words at face value and doing something about it instead of feeling so oppressed in a country that has provided a platform to change what they don’t like. Maybe they should look to the disunity within their own party. They’ll have another 5 years at least to work that out.

Children in cages and the hypocrisy of the left

Good to see the woke artists of NY protest kids in cages by using 24 mock ups complete with audio being blasted through speakers of crying and wailing kids. pluck at those heart strings.

Where were these same people in 2014 when the Obama administration had a policy of kids in cages? It is far from ideal but let’s explore the facts.

No one wants to see screaming kids locked in cages. Separated? Well there is good reason for that. When even the likes of left-leaning HuffPoadmitted in December 2014 that 80% of women and girls are sexually assaulted while trying to make it across the border there is a good reason to question the proof of identity of the supposed parents. Even if 90% of parent/children pairs are legit, what of the 10% that aren’t? Do ICE risk it?

Australia had an experience of a mother from Nepal (a democracy not at war) who deliberately poured boiling water on her infant to expedite processing on the mainland. Are these the values of people we should provide refuge to? We should not forget that many people make the journey knowing ALL the risks that confront them yet still attempt it despite the warnings.

To emphasize the danger of lax screening, multiple kids were found dead after being abandoned once across the border as their usefulness as a golden ticket on compassionate grounds was expended. If that isn’t some of the worst forms of child abuse then what is? Moreover these people are hardly the type that decent Americans would want to embrace with open arms!

In Jan 2016 WaPo noted, “The Office of Refugee Resettlement, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, failed to do proper background checks of adults who claimed the children…several Guatemalan teens were found in a dilapidated trailer park near Marion, Ohio, where they were being held captive in squalid conditions by traffickers and forced to work“. So slave labour to repay human traffickers? Let’s encourage more to attempt the crossing!

Then ICE has the trouble of finding the parents/guardians (sponsors) already living (often) illegally to collect their unaccompanied children at pre-arranged court hearings. The media went into a frenzy saying that ICE had lost the records. The truth came out in Feb 2016 that,

“The head of ICE’s removal operations, Thomas Homan, told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that 7,643 immigrants who arrived as children were sent home between the 2012 and 2015 budget years…More than 171,000 children, mostly from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, were arrested at the border during that same time…The number of children caught crossing the border illegally spiked in 2014 [see impacts in NY Times graphic below] and the Obama administration promised that those who were not eligible for protections in the United States would be swiftly sent home… And with an immigration court backlog of more than 474,000 pending cases some cases can take years to move through the court system…

…about 40% of immigrants are no shows at court…Finding immigrant children with outstanding deportation orders is also complicated by the fact that they often are no longer at the addresses provided to the government.”We are out looking,” Homan said. “But they are hard to find. A lot of these folks who don’t show up in court, we don’t know where they’re at.”

The pictures of kids in concentration camp style cages were from 2014. Yet don’t let that get put in the way of a narrative to show the nationalist tendencies of the current administration.

While we can express outrage at the treatment of illegal immigrants at the border, the tougher laws have started to resonate with Ana Garcia Carias, wife of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who said, “Stay in the country and let’s look for solutions to support you.” She visited the border and said that she didn’t recommend her citizens go to the US undocumented. If a court system has nearly 500,000 backed up in the system, it seems reasonable to push for a zero tolerance policy to end.

So typical of the left – it’s not the principle but the side that counts. Of course Trump is a single handed villain using Gestapo tactics to jail kids despite Obama starting the practice of caging in the first place.

More stats on ICE can be found in CM’s report here.

Sorry President Trump but you’re dead wrong. It was not the worst call. It was actually the best for Australians

Is anyone really surprised at the outcome of the Trump-Turnbull call? It might have been better handled with a quick email by the sounds of things, assuming of course you believe WaPo’s synopsis. Of course the President was going to take umbrage at the deal to take in refugees from Australia made with Obama. One would have thought two former ‘captains of industry’ might be able to grasp the ‘art of the deal’ but who can blame Trump for having none of it given his clear intention to put “America First!”. However I must protest at the President calling it the worst call. For him maybe but for Australians who have had to deal with 16 months of total inaction with Turnbull at the helm the LNP has indeed made a far worse one by hanging up prematurely on Abbott. Perhaps Tony Abbott was not everyone’s cup of tea but he was no slouch in getting things done, even unpopular decisions. Sure he made some mistakes but he was always well intentioned. Isn’t that a welcome change to most politicians today (Turnbull included) whose main objective in life is to remain in power and will compromise anything to retain it.  Why would a voting public wish to trade a doer for an appeaser? The LNP is still in denial. So weakened are they that the response to Abbott’s speech to young Liberals was next to non-existent.Yet instead of waking up and restoring the one person who could reunite the party they mull the idea of maybe Julie Bishop filling the void, a person a large proportion of LNP voters would regard as the total antithesis of what they want their party to represent.

Let us be honest. Australia has been America’s ally for a long time, especially bonded in blood during WW2. Since then Australia has the enviable record of being the first country to answer America’s call to arms since. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. Australia has the same pastry as America although our filling maybe meat vs America’s apple. Is Australia’s stance with America irreparably damaged? Not in any sense. Although perhaps the leader of the free world sees exactly through what the polls are telling Turnbull here. While I hesitate to call One Nation’s Pauline Hanson a Trump, she is the closest we have and the polls reflect that given they are now 10% of the preference. If LNP Senator Cory Bernardi secedes with the Australian Conservatives, Turnbull would have no choice but to resign given the fact he failed to reunite a party he divided but promised he could mend.

Of course Trump’s style of politics is unconventional to say the least. However his popularity is far higher than the mainstream media makes out. In a sense he is just the CEO of 330mn employees who are actually his shareholders. In 4 years they can sack him if they so choose. However like I wrote earlier about small business confidence, the likelihood of massive cuts to regulation has been a call to arms for the little corner shop to see the future, something that had been lacking for almost two decades. Don’t dismiss hard numbers. The polls can be skewed anyway you like but self-regulating small businesses live and die by confidence. That has now been restored. I’ve banged on excessively about how ‘confidence’ has been the one lacking ingredient in global markets that central banks and inept governments have had no solutions. People and businesses invest because they see a cycle, not because interest rates are low.

Full credit to Theresa May. The Brexit vote is yet another signal of ‘confidence’ or lack of same in the EU. Of course the soft option was to remain in the EU. That is the problem with the world today. So many are too fixated on being comfortable. Does leaving the EU pose risks? Yes, but equally more opportunity. They’ll have their own laws and currency and not have to be dictated to by a supranational state. The EU is fighting so many fires, especially this year and the U.K. is not the only state looking to exit – Greece, Italy, The Netherlands and while not likely soon, Germany. It works fine in theory but mixing vastly differently cultures, languages and lifestyles was always going to be an insurmountable hurdle. Now the economy is in the dumps we see the EU for what it is – desperate.

Which brings us back to the question of worst call. Turnbull has dithered for 16 months while Australia’s economic position weakens. Make no mistake, Australia’s economy is heading for the rocks. With 2 of the top 6 most expensive global housing markets with price/income ratios way above anything elsewhere, Turnbull throws out the one liners but agility is something we aren’t. While Turnbull may possess a softspot for Obama, sadly he is no longer President. He needs to deal with the future with a negotiator who has little time for platitudes. Turnbull needs to resign. Sadly his Prime Ministership was all about ego and nothing about wanting to make Australia great again. How embarrassing to be yet again the laughing stock of the free world. Make no mistake, no fewer than 5 of my American friends in Tokyo have alerted me to “who is this Turnbull?”. I get the invisibility thing but at the same time I take that as they have exactly the same wish to make our bonds tight as ever as we actually share far more in common than what the media with its regular rants completely overlook.

So perhaps President Trump, may I say for Australia it might have been the best call. The wake up call to get on board and start doing things that aren’t popular but ultimately for the greater good. Good bye Mr Turnbull….”hello, hello…is there anyone there?”
