Impeachment for budding US constitutional experts

Image result for impeach

Salvatore Balbones has written one of the better pieces as goes impeachment to all those budding US constitutional experts in The Spectator today.

In the United States, no president has ever been convicted in an impeachment proceeding, even if he was guilty. In 1998, Bill Clinton almost certainly committed at least two high crimes (perjury and obstruction of justice), and God knows how many misdemeanours, but even he was acquitted. And that was with Republicans in control of the Senate. The idea that Donald Trump would be convicted on vague charges of ‘abuse of power’ by two-thirds of a Senate where his party controls an absolute majority is preposterous. Even Donald Trump isn’t that unpopular.

And then there’s the election. In case you haven’t heard, 2020 is an election year in the United States. Conviction in an impeachment proceeding removes the incumbent from office, but it doesn’t automatically disqualify him from running again. That takes an additional vote. But if Senate Republicans not only convict President Trump but also disqualify him from holding office in the future, who would be the Republican candidate in the 2020 elections? Currently, no one else is (seriously) running. The national Republican party isn’t even holding candidate debates, and some state parties are cancelling primaries and caucuses. It seems very unlikely that the Republicans would let the Democrats walk into the White House unopposed.

TeePee vs Toupee?

More and more it looks as though Elizabeth Warren will become the Democratic nominee for the 2020 election.

As you can see she has taken over Biden on a national and Iowa level according to this Predict It poll. Poor old Bernie Sanders is floundering.

Trump’s #1 job is to keep the home economy and financial markets from tanking. It’s still a tough assignment from here. The sooner the Dems have one face for the campaign the less embarrassment to be caused by Beto O’Rourke, Kamala Harris or Joaquin Castro.

Warren’s platform is essentially based on free everything. Sadly she doesn’t have the speaking qualities of Hillary Clinton. She is more genuine but always seems to be wooden.

The debates will undoubtedly focus on things personal rather than what truly matters. Reality TV at its finest, no doubt.

If Warren wins 2020, China will use the pretext of a softy in the White House to get busy doing what they please.

Laugh of the day

According to Public Policy Polling (PPP), USWNT Megan Rapinoe would beat Trump in 2020. She doesn’t wish to run as she’s too busy but CM thinks she doesn’t hold mainstream values to win the majority of voters.

Although her potential victory speech on Capitol Hill could be the first to be profanity laden. “To my fellow f*cking Americans.” It might be a safer option than listing each identity group by level of grievance because they’re all the most oppressed in their own eyes…even those suffering under the weight of multi million dollar contracts.

Somehow CM doesn’t think Nancy Pelosi wants another petulant child to deal with. AOC is bad enough.

Poor old Joe Biden

Joe Biden maybe the front runner for the Democrats in 2020 but the internet trolls are having a wow of a time. Note his creepy t-shirts are being sold under www.joebiden.info and the web address of joebiden.org leads straight to the White House website listing President Trump’s accomplishments. It seems now that election campaigning requires more than just placards and postbox drops. Ouch.

Scandal-less or Scandalous?

President Obama is often hailed by the left as having a blemish free record. No scandals. Good, clean and wholesome. However a CNN poll has revealed that,

69% think Congress ought to investigate the origins of the Justice Department’s inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including 76% of Democrats, 69% of independents and 62% of Republicans.

Should we be surprised that the American people want answers to the Steele dossier? The FISA court approval of the wiretap? Did Obama know? If so, when did he know it? Many are questioning the spying conducted on the Trump 2016 campaign.

How ironic that 2020 hopeful Joe Biden is not asking for an endorsement from Obama, his former bromance partner. Maybe he feels he will be tainted by an investigation which involves his old boss.

Trump Derangement Syndrome hits US high school textbook

Peak TDS. US high school students are being indoctrinated with leftist bile in the latest update of the text book, ‘By the People: A History of the United States‘. The book denotes that Trump is mentally ill and his followers are racist. While teachers and educators are free to speak their mind in private about their complete dislike for Trump, it is another thing for their derangement syndrome to be presented as unchallenged fact in a textbook and taught.

Under the chapter titled, “The Angry Election of 2016,” it reads, “Most thought that Trump was too extreme a candidate to win the nomination, but his extremism, his anti-establishment rhetoric, and, some said, his not very hidden racism connected with a significant number of primary voters.

The book also covers the topic of the mostly older, mainly rural or suburban and overwhelmingly white supporters, by describing,

Clinton’s supporters feared that the election had been determined by people who were afraid of a rapidly developing ethnic diversity of the country, discomfort with their candidate’s gender and nostalgia for an earlier time in the nation’s history…They also worried about the mental stability of the president-elect and the anger that he and his supporters brought to the nation.”

A statement from the publisher, Pearson, read,

This work is designed to convey college-level information to high school students and meet specific Advanced Placement standards. It aims to promote debate and critical thinking by presenting multiple sides of historical issues and offering a broad survey of arguments from the 2016 presidential election and other recent topics. We have reviewed the passages in question independently and in the context of the rest of the book. This review has confirmed that the text offers a broad view of critical arguments from both sides of the 2016 presidential election.

One has to question independence on the review. Surely TDS was a prerequisite.

In the immortal words of George Costanza from Seinfeld, “it is not a lie if you believe it”

Yet more ammunition for Trump to romp home in 2020.

2020 presidential election campaign funding not even close

So the fundraising for the 2020 residential election moves on in earnest in America. It seems Trump has received $30m in Q1 2019 alone. Bernie Sanders has collected $18m and Kamala Harris $12m since her bid to run in January 2019. Elizabeth Warren has $4m in the campaign kitty and Beto O’Rourke $9.4m.

For a man so hated, many seem willing to throw their cash in the ring to support his re-election bid. The Republican National Committee has raised another $46m. The large number of donations it received seem to be driven off the back of the outcome of the Mueller report which announced no crimes committed.

Could it be the deplorables, who apparently have no money, want to put Mr Trump back in charge in 2020? Or maybe a broader section of Americans are tired of the non-stop drone in the media and tuned out to Democrats who seem more interested in opposing Trump on everything rather than put forward a proper campaign based on alternative policies.
