Pelosi turns on AOC staffer

CM has held for a while that the Democratic Party is so fractured and disjointed in policy that it will end up eating its own. Recall Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, belittled the Green New Deal as the “green dream.” CM said it was best for Pelosi to bring Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) inside the tent for the very reason she won’t use her platforms to say silly things because she isn’t on the A-team.

Well AOC’s chief staffer, Saikat Chakrabarti, has stepped in and accused Nancy Pelosi and her ilk as being “New Southern Democrats” further contesting,

They certainly seem hell bent to do black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s.”

Pelosi shot back,

All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got…You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just OK

Good to see the harmony inside the Democrats will lead them to a resounding 2020 victory……..

A show of hands anyone?

800 Jewish grandparents shaking their heads

If these self-entitled brats had the first idea what their grandparents may have endured during the Holocaust, they would never seek to do this. Being Jewish doesn’t make one an expert on American border policy. Have they considered that these captives ran into harm’s way, rather than from it?

Do these kids know what the “sonderkommando” did inside real concentration camps during the 1940s? What about the “kapos”? Thought not.

Do these kids think ICE are subjecting kids to forced labour? Are they being led into gas chambers? Their bodies cremated in incinerators? Is their hair being shaved off to make clothes? Are their guardians gold teeth being pulled to fund the ICE/CBP effort ?

CM went to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 2003. There is a room in the middle of a 3km x2km perimeter where photos of the Polish Jews who were murdered are posted in a collage.

One picture floored CM. It was – picture of this young girl, named Renia Kohn. She was 5yo when she was gassed. Tears still stream when I look at this photo. It puts one’s own life into perspective. She was systematically murdered. For what? For being a Jew.

Or maybe it is pictures like Abraham Feiler that shocked CM. The look of fear in that poor man’s eyes. It is sheer terror an one only knows what must have been going through his mind before he was killed in 1942.

CM was so taken back by the strength of character Bronislawa Bachleda had. She was murdered in April 1943 but her face is full of defiance. How could she hold up like that in the face of such tyranny?

Or when CM visited Majdanek. The camp is in tact much as it was in the 1940s. It is set at the bottom of a valley in Lublin, Poland. The wind whistles through the gaps in the wood of the crematorium. It is the most awful blood curdling whistle. It is creepy beyond all belief. Goose bumps are a given.

In one of the huts lie over 100,000 pairs of shoes. One cannot unsee the number of children’s shoes collected in the museum. Crows still squawk from the guard towers as if the evil spell has yet to be lifted.

Or Sachsenhausen in Germany where prisoners were hung by their arms tied behind their backs to a pole. The weight of their bodies would dislocate the arms from their sockets. Such inhumane torture.

Maybe these kids might learn about Berisz Dov Lemel who was the subject of medical experiments on his liver and stomach which continued until April 1945. He is still alive today with 7 grand children.

Border camps have become a necessary evil to be able to contain the tide of illegal immigrants. These kids would be better off paying attention to history than drawing a false equivalence to ICE behaving like the Waffen SS.

It is insane beyond belief to think that kids are being systematically murdered at the hands of US border officials. For if that were true activity would slow to such a trickle that US border patrols would only have to watch the grass grow in Mexico. As it stands many still prepared to take risks to move to the dictatorship which offers so much opportunity.

These kids should be forced to visit Yad Vashem and see what genocide truly looks like instead of running around with placards while sipping on Starbucks chai lattes as if they know what they’re talking about.

Pro-Trump crowds in London?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZB4kjp8irRw&feature=youtu.be

CM was asked to provide proof that there were more than a few people supporting Trump on his visit to London. Naturally the mainstream media just covered the angry mobs and the baby balloon.

Of course many pro-Trumpers prefer to drink, not wear milkshakes. Or as BBC comedian Jo Brand suggested to people of his ilk (i.e. Nigel Farage) that battery acid should be thrown instead. Great joke in a city where acid attacks are almost a twice a daily occurrence.

Children in cages and the hypocrisy of the left

Good to see the woke artists of NY protest kids in cages by using 24 mock ups complete with audio being blasted through speakers of crying and wailing kids. pluck at those heart strings.

Where were these same people in 2014 when the Obama administration had a policy of kids in cages? It is far from ideal but let’s explore the facts.

No one wants to see screaming kids locked in cages. Separated? Well there is good reason for that. When even the likes of left-leaning HuffPoadmitted in December 2014 that 80% of women and girls are sexually assaulted while trying to make it across the border there is a good reason to question the proof of identity of the supposed parents. Even if 90% of parent/children pairs are legit, what of the 10% that aren’t? Do ICE risk it?

Australia had an experience of a mother from Nepal (a democracy not at war) who deliberately poured boiling water on her infant to expedite processing on the mainland. Are these the values of people we should provide refuge to? We should not forget that many people make the journey knowing ALL the risks that confront them yet still attempt it despite the warnings.

To emphasize the danger of lax screening, multiple kids were found dead after being abandoned once across the border as their usefulness as a golden ticket on compassionate grounds was expended. If that isn’t some of the worst forms of child abuse then what is? Moreover these people are hardly the type that decent Americans would want to embrace with open arms!

In Jan 2016 WaPo noted, “The Office of Refugee Resettlement, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, failed to do proper background checks of adults who claimed the children…several Guatemalan teens were found in a dilapidated trailer park near Marion, Ohio, where they were being held captive in squalid conditions by traffickers and forced to work“. So slave labour to repay human traffickers? Let’s encourage more to attempt the crossing!

Then ICE has the trouble of finding the parents/guardians (sponsors) already living (often) illegally to collect their unaccompanied children at pre-arranged court hearings. The media went into a frenzy saying that ICE had lost the records. The truth came out in Feb 2016 that,

“The head of ICE’s removal operations, Thomas Homan, told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that 7,643 immigrants who arrived as children were sent home between the 2012 and 2015 budget years…More than 171,000 children, mostly from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, were arrested at the border during that same time…The number of children caught crossing the border illegally spiked in 2014 [see impacts in NY Times graphic below] and the Obama administration promised that those who were not eligible for protections in the United States would be swiftly sent home… And with an immigration court backlog of more than 474,000 pending cases some cases can take years to move through the court system…

…about 40% of immigrants are no shows at court…Finding immigrant children with outstanding deportation orders is also complicated by the fact that they often are no longer at the addresses provided to the government.”We are out looking,” Homan said. “But they are hard to find. A lot of these folks who don’t show up in court, we don’t know where they’re at.”

The pictures of kids in concentration camp style cages were from 2014. Yet don’t let that get put in the way of a narrative to show the nationalist tendencies of the current administration.

While we can express outrage at the treatment of illegal immigrants at the border, the tougher laws have started to resonate with Ana Garcia Carias, wife of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who said, “Stay in the country and let’s look for solutions to support you.” She visited the border and said that she didn’t recommend her citizens go to the US undocumented. If a court system has nearly 500,000 backed up in the system, it seems reasonable to push for a zero tolerance policy to end.

So typical of the left – it’s not the principle but the side that counts. Of course Trump is a single handed villain using Gestapo tactics to jail kids despite Obama starting the practice of caging in the first place.

More stats on ICE can be found in CM’s report here.

Dictator with term limits

While no one can doubt that Trump polarizes opinion, do his detractors honestly think they will win the debate by mowing a giant phallus into a lawn? Will this attempt to (literally) take the moral low ground somehow swing those who hold different opinions?

If the dictator moniker were true he would be the world’s most incompetent executor of such an office. Sadly Trump has between 1.5 and 5.5 years (likely the latter) to remain as DOTUS. Instead of 99% of the population voting for him like a Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un or Hitler, Trump will likely garner around half. If Americans truly wanted a real dictator they would be better off voting for someone who could get 99%. Sadly democracies don’t operate like that.

The Queen, who long remembers the 80 year relationship which preserved her monarchy, knows that after Trump leaves office, the UK will still continue to have a strong bond with America. Her Majesty won’t resort to petty snubs of its head of state because she feels the need to kowtow to the intolerant mindsets of a few.

Will Americans want to see politicians like Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry show such conditional support for American democracy? Did she call for protests when the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia visited? A man with pretty questionable actions regarding journalists in embassies. No she did not.

There are far more effective ways to show courtesy to visiting dignitaries. As CM mentioned yesterday, Trump’s tweets are unstatesmanlike. It doesn’t make Thornberry or Khan’s any better.

Perhaps the Queen is sending the world a message about “the long game.” She probably knows a thing or two about diplomacy as the world’s longest serving monarch. Her state dinner invitation list is the perfect representation of who she feels needs prioritization. What an embarrassment that the UK government did not extend the invite in the first place.

God save our Queen!

More auto marriages have ended in divorce

Auto mergers were once thought of as the best things since sliced bread. Massive operating capacity leverage, shared platforms to reduce cost and a reduction of R&D spend per vehicle. The word “synergy” gets bandied about more than Casanova whispers “I love you“on Valentines Day! Yet why is the auto industry littered with divorces from these romances?

Lets list them.

Daimler bought Chrysler in 1998. Divorced in 2007.

Daimler alliance with Mitsubishi Motors founded in 2000. Divorce in 2005.

Daimler alliance with Hyundai founded in 2000. Divorce in 2004.

Honda – Rover JV. Started 1980. Divorced 1994

BMW – Rover – Started 1994. Deceased 2000.

Nissan – Renault – Started 1999. Currently providing real headaches due to Carlos Ghosn saga. Nissan wants full independence

Ford forms Premier Automotive Group (PAG) comprising Land Rover, Aston Martin, Volvo, Lincoln and Jaguar. Set up in 1999.

Ford sells Aston Martin in 2007.

Ford sells Land Rover & Jaguar to Tata in 2008

Ford sells Volvo to Geely in 2010.

Fiat Chrysler (FCA) formed in 2014 – including Fiat, Abarth, Chrysler, Jeep, RAM, Dodge, Lancia, Maserati & Ferrari brands.

FCA spins Ferrari off in 2016.

This isn’t an exhaustive list but one can be guaranteed that more money has been lost in auto mergers in aggregate than made. Daimler paid $45bn for Chrysler. Almost all of the Mercedes profits plugged the losses of Chrysler. Mercedes quality suffered through cost cutting sending it down toward the bottom of surveys. Daimler’s shares lost over $80bn in market cap as this disaster unfolded.

FCA and Nissan/Renault have been amongst the more successful marriages but global markets have turned many a honeymoon period into separation with fights over custody.

Forming a merger at the top of a cycle seems fraught with risks. Global auto sales are slowing. Renault and Fiat bring a lot of overlap in product lines. Nissan is such an unclear part of the puzzle.

One can argue that synergies which will lower the costs of future production have merit. Investing in battery technology does make sense across multiple product lines.

The biggest problem for the auto industry is that should a slowdown hit mid-merger, which brand suffers the hits? Which marketing team gets culled? Which R&D projects get scuppered? Too many cooks spoil the broth is the end result. There is no way a merger can be locked down in a short timeframe unless one of the parties is facing bankruptcy and has no choice but to comply. That is why Nissan-Renault worked.

Renault-FCA would be better conceived after markets have imploded. Marriages built on tough times stand a far bigger chance of survival than those that are built when things are the rosiest. Shareholders will be the biggest losers if conceived now.

Westminster gets its second referendum on Brexit

If the House of Commons needed any reconfirmation of the mandate to leave the E.U. – because there was ambiguity over the Brexit referendum – this should clear it all up. Interesting how Brexit stops at Hadrian’s Wall. If a second referendum was held, Leave would be an even bigger margin. Interesting to see the oxymoronically named Change UK (Remain) had no impact.
