Hamilton Schmamilton – lecturing in double standards

I’m not sure why people have been surprised about the Hamilton cast’s lecturing of VP-elect Mike Pence. Of course it was rather disrespectful to do it in front of a large audience (which showed even less respect by booing) and “throw him under the bus” but what do you expect from such liberal intelligentsia making exactly the same errors of judgement, moral and intellectual superiority that saw them lose the unlosable election. There is nothing wrong with them expressing an opinion under the tenets of free speech but there is a time and place. The problem with the safe space snowflake generation is they understand little about respect and everything about self-entitlement not to mention over-dosing on double standards.

We shouldn’t forget what was said to the soon to be second most powerful man in the world:

“Vice President-elect Pence, I see you’re walking out, but I hope you will hear just a few more minutes…We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our friends, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us…We truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds and orientation…We don’t have to agree, but we have to live here.”

Hang on! This is exactly the same group that went out of its way to highlight it wanted to hire non-white men and women. The show’s producer Jeffrey Seller claimed that Hamilton encourages diversity and a spokesman said the language in the advertisement, “seeking non-white performers,” was approved by Actors Equity, the Broadway union. I can only imagine how that is the paragon of equity.

Isn’t it funny that they falsely accuse Pence of the same crime they already openly commit. Hypocrisy in the extreme. If it turned out that all non-white actors/actresses blew the doors off for raw meritorious talent I would jump for joy. However trying to promote diversity by preventing it doesn’t seem the way forward. Had some playwright chose to do a musical about Obama and said that African American actors to play him were not sought we’d hear wailing in the extreme.

Let’s face it any job interview discriminates in one way, shape or form. We are selected by personality traits, perhaps educational qualifications or maybe even physical attributes. A grand piano removals company might want to hire burly people because size probably matters hauling such weight. Airlines like to specify crew that has certain size requirements because they don’t want an obese stewardess t0 crash her rear into passengers as she moves the trolley down the aisle. Perhaps a Japanese restaurant wants to hire Japanese staff to add authenticity to an experience. A blind person probably doesn’t make a good pilot. A person with no legal training probably doesn’t make an effective trial lawyer. Discrimination based on rational grounds is no issue. Hamilton was on irrational grounds.

In any event, Trump and Pence havent even taken office yet the liberals are already making broad brush assumptions about how they will not protect minorities. More minorities voted for Trump than Romney. This idea that the incoming administration wants to turn the USA into a police state is unreal. Look at the plans to prevent insiders becoming lobbyists for 5 years after leaving their government posts. Draining the swamp of lobbyists hell bent on self interest.

As ever with the champagne socialist celebrity world they go out of their way to show how “conditional” their love of country is. Many threatened to leave but predictably failed to do so, preferring the “no place like home” safety net of their fan base.

However I sincerely hope the liberals never change. I mean that. They do such a fantastic job in shooting themselves in the foot that if they had a mandate to screw their ultimate aims they couldn’t do a finer job. A standing ovation from me.

As Judge Jeanine Pirro ppinged out, “What happened to your old, ‘Love trumps hate’ line? You’re all damn hypocrites. You think that you and people who think like you are the only ones who deserve respect…[T]hey didn’t just reject your presidential candidate, they rejected your senate, your house, and your governorship. Get used to it! And I’ve got news for you. Don’t lecture this man. You may know a little about hip hop and dancing around the stage. I majored in American History and I saw the play Hamilton, and I loved it. But you just took the fun, the enjoyment and the memory of that play right out of me. Which might explain why the number one hashtag that’s trending right now is is #BoycottHamilton.”

As far as boycotting the play – let people judge for themselves whether they want to see it. I pay money to see art. Much like I wrote this morning on buying consumer products, I do not take kindly to having politics added to the price of admission.
